Gilde Nijmegen is a 100% volunteer organization. Our guiding principle is that all of our volunteers should enjoy the work that they do.

Each volunteer receives a small expense allowance for their work. Our volunteers are part from a nice and enthusiastic group of people. Their motto is “voluntary is not without obligation”

1. Language buddies

Volunteers who like to help a new Dutch person with learning the Dutch language and culture. The way in which this happens is always in consultation between the language buddy and the new Dutchman.

We ask:

• Affinity with language
• Are interested in other cultures
• Participation in an annual educational and fun meeting.

2. Staff secretary for city walks

The largest group of volunteers are our city guides. Men and women who enjoy showing interested parties around our beautiful and the oldest city in the Netherlands.

The most important task of the employee of the city walks secretariat is to process the incoming requests for a city walk and to find a guide. Rebooking the walks and providing information to both applicants and city guides is their primary task.

We ask:

• Interest in the city of Nijmegen
• Interest in people and enjoy interacting with people
• Some stress resistance
• Being able to use a computer
• Being available by phone
• Wish to work from home for several hours a day
• Being able to respond to unexpected situations
• Good knowledge of the Dutch language.

In addition to the aforementioned expense allowance, we offer a monthly allowance for computer and telephone costs.

3. Cycling guides

Every week on Thursday morning a group of cyclists, led by our guides, depart for a pleasant trip in the Nijmegen area.
Would you like to cycle with this group as a guide, based on a predetermined schedule? Do you like Nijmegen and the surrounding area? Then this might be a nice volunteer job for you!
